Description:

A new production of "Lakmé" starring Douvielle, conducted by Pichon, and directed by Perry -- from the Opéra-Comique, where it was first performed! The setting is 19th century India during the British rule. The priest Neelakantha secretly gathers a congregation in the forest and plots a rebellion against British colonial rule. Lakme, Neelakantha's beautiful daughter, lives secluded as a priestess, but when Gerald, a British soldier stationed in India, spots her, he falls in love with her. Neelakantha stands in the way of their unforgivable love. He tries to lure Gerard to his death. ...... Lakmé, by Leo Dreib, best known as the composer of the ballet Coppelia, premiered at the Opéra-Comique in Paris in 1883, and was a great success, with its familiar music and drama reflecting the exotic taste of the musical world and audience of the time. It was a great success with its familiar music and dramatic plot that reflected the exotic tastes of the musical world and audiences of the time. Since then, the opera has been performed more than 1,600 times at the same theater and has become a major hit in the French opera-comique (opera with dialogue) repertoire. This production is a new production by the Opéra-Comique, directed by the genius Roland Perry, who has been bringing a new style to the world of opera production for more than 20 years with his originality and ingenuity. A tragic love story unfolds against the backdrop of a stage design based on unexpectedly achromatic colors. The title role is played by Sabine Deuvier, a diva with a wide repertoire ranging from baroque music to bel canto operas and modern works. Her clear, beautiful voice and precise singing technique shine in the famous coloratura aria "The Song of the Bells" and in "The Flower Duet" sung with Marika (Ambroisine Bure), a maid of honor. The cast also includes Stéphane Degoux as Neelakantha, who struggles with the conflict between her daughter Lakmé's breaking of the law and her role as the priestess leading the congregation. Pygmalion, an ancient music ensemble led by Raphaël Pichon, whose performance activities have attracted much interest in recent years and whose "Matthew Passion" won the 2022 Record Academy Gold Prize, sings and plays brilliantly at the Opéra-Comique, where "Lakmé" was first performed.
