The original version of "Boris Godunov" (1869), the "prototype" of the work by Brin Terfel & Pappano! The time is the beginning of the "Age of Turmoil" in Russia after the death of Ivan the Terrible. The play depicts the downfall and death of Boris Godunov, who killed Dmitry, the heir to the throne, but anguished over his conscience. ......The opera "Boris Godunov" was completed in 1869. Although completed in 1869, the original version (1869) has been neglected due to subsequent revisions by the composer himself, Rimsky=Korsakov, Shostakovich, and others. In this production, Bryn Terfel, in his first musical attempt as Boris Godunov, sings the role of the arrogant and fragile hero with realism, and the Covent Garden Chorus and Orchestra, whose performance has been remarkably strong in recent years, provide the perfect accompaniment to Pappano's stern and dramatic performance. Pappano brings out a stern and profound sound from the chorus and orchestra of Covent Garden, which have been remarkably productive in recent years.Theatrically, Richard Jones' stage direction clearly visualizes the darkness in the usurper's heart, the intrigues of the courtiers, and the movements of the unnamed people, resulting in a convincing drama that is akin to Mussorgsky's original "Boris Godunov," which was inspired by Pushkin's historical drama.
