Haydn (1732-1809)
Description:
The 13th volume of the "Horn Signal" is a series of solo works, all of which are titled masterpieces! Eight years after the release of the first volume (ALPHA 670) in 2014, Giovanni Antonini's remarkable project to record all 107 symphonies of the "Father of Symphony" by 2032, the 300th anniversary of Haydn's birth, is now in full swing. Haydn's symphonic works, written during his nearly 30 years of active service with the Marquise of Esterházy, were written by trial and error in the Marquise's estates far from Vienna without regard to public opinion, and even the small two- wind orchestra without timpani, trumpet or clarinet is surprisingly diverse in its musical writing. This time, we have selected three symphonies from the first half of the middle period, which are especially rich in flavor. This time, however, we have selected three pieces from the first half of the middle period that are particularly appealing: the long "Horn Signal" (No. 31), in which there is no shortage of solos by each part; "Fire" (No. 59), in which the independent wind parts are a pair of oboes and horns, and the original version of No. 48, "Maria Theresa," in which the scale of the music is still very impressive even without percussion. Maria Theresa," all of which are performed by Antonini's own orchestra, Il Giardino armonico, and all of which showcase rich and unified interpretations that make the most of the individuality of each player. In "Horn Signal," in particular, the four natural horn players create a rich Dunamik sound with their overwhelming and poignant blowing, and the large-scale chamber music-like ensemble in the last movement, in which even the double basses and violas take solos, is exquisite, allowing the listener to enjoy the virtuosity of each instrument in detail. You can enjoy the charms of the individual instruments. The commentary, which reflects the latest research (Japanese translation is included in the domestic edition), is full of information on the mysteries surrounding the titles of each piece and Antonini's interpretative views. The contents are not to be missed. Naxos Japan
