Bach (1685-1750)
Description:
Brunello's Passion for Playing Violin Works on Cello Piccolo and Bach Concertos! Mario Brunello is an Italian virtuoso who has been active worldwide as a regular cello player. In recent years, he has been playing the small cello (4-string cello piccolo = an instrument tuned exactly one octave lower than the violin), which was used in the Baroque period, in period technique, and performing violin works according to the custom of the time, such as Bach's unaccompanied works and six complete duet sonatas recorded with ARCANA. He has been performing more and more violin works in accordance with the customs of the time. This time, with the Accademia della Nunciata, also at the forefront of the Italian ancient instrument scene, he performs six Bach concertos on cello piccolo. The majority of the works on this program were originally written for other solo instruments and arranged by Bach for the harpsichord, and many specialists have attempted to identify and restore the original works. The attempt to perform these concertos on the cello piccolo, which Bach himself used in many of his church cantatas, is a legitimate approach of the time. Brunello's mid-bass melodies are fresh and fresh, and whether arranged as a chamber concerto or with a string ensemble, they will renew your appreciation of the past. The solo "Italian Concerto," a concerto for ensemble reproduced on a single two-stage harpsichord, is also arranged for ensemble use in reverse. The excellent period playing, combined with the unexpected aspect of the work, is sure to surprise you. The liner notes include Brunello's own comments and a commentary by Peter Volney, Director of the Leipzig Bach Archiv (in English, French, and Italian). Naxos Japan
