A young ensemble born in 2019 that brings together a new generation of ancient music players active in France's forefront ensembles such as Le Poème Armonique, Ensemble Elima, and Les Arts Florissants, who approach the essence of the Baroque, "making words into sound," from both instrumental and vocal perspectives, La Palatine. With the help of percussionist Laurent Sauron, the ensemble vividly conveys the subtleties of 17th-century Italian vocal music, which approaches a vivid portrayal of human emotions, with edgy baroque guitar strumming, slow and free viola da gamba, a harpsichord full of dynamism and songfulness, and a serene organ sound, Marie Theorelle's voice, which is fresh and beautiful even in the upper register, vividly conveys the subtleties of 17th-century Italian vocal music, which depicts the raw emotions of human beings. The instrumental tracks are full of the flavors of each instrument, evoking the court dances and instrumental moments enjoyed by the Italian aristocracy. The relaxed sound throughout the entire album is pleasant, with a high respect for poetry and a sense of unity, leading naturally to the final piece (and the title of the album), a masterpiece by Brassens, one of the great chansons of the 20th century, which is truly charming. Theorbo, harpsichord, and gamba sounds coexist effortlessly with 20th century songs, reminding us of the essence of baroque music, which was inseparable from poetry recitations and speeches.
