Beethoven by two innovative masters of the ancient music world! Bruno Coxe, who has been entertaining us with a number of recordings of Beethoven sonatas that reflect his latest research results, has recorded Beethoven's sonatas, which he has dreamed of since he was a teenager. The fortepiano is played by Maud Gratton, who has earned the trust of Philippe Herreweghe and many other classical musicians, and also plays keyboard in the ensemble Les Basses Reunis, led by Coxé. The fortepianos used in Nos. 1 and 2 are Stein reproductions, which are believed to be Beethoven's first instruments, and in No. 3, the original Broadwood instrument, which is said to have been in the composer's possession until the end of his life. Neither of these choices seems to have been made in accordance with the date of composition, but it is a great pleasure to hear the differences in tone quality. The lively cello of Coxe is intertwined with the piano of Gratton, who is known for his versatile expression, and the appeal of both is that they challenge the limits of their instruments with their intense, amplified expression. There is nothing rigid about the playing, and it is so free and spontaneous that it evokes a somewhat refreshing sensation when listening to it.It is no exaggeration to say that this is a new addition to the lineage of masterpieces left by many masters.
