Manuel Ponce is one of the leading composers of modern Mexico. His style is somewhere between late Romanticism and Neoclassicism. In Japan, he is well known for his song "Estrellita (Little Star)" arranged by Heifetz and some guitar pieces, and is positioned as a "guitar composer," but in fact, he himself was an excellent pianist, and his piano pieces account for a large percentage of his works. In this third collection of Ponce's complete piano works, there are works from his youth, such as "Concert Exercises" in which he used his superb technique to show off his skills as a pianist; works from his mature years, in which he adapted traditional Mexican folk songs and dances with his original pianism; and works from his early years, such as "Evening Song," "May" and "Mazurka. These works are full of romanticism and individuality, and represent three aspects of Ponset's music. The dazzling "Persaglieri" is also worth listening to. Naxos Japan
