Description:
Kopatchinskaja's tribute album to the "bad boy of music," created with intimate sympathy by the genius Patrizia Kopatchinskaja, depicts the world surrounding George Antile. Antile, who called himself a "futuristic pianist," was a great admirer of Beethoven and preferred to play his own works before his recitals, and this album includes the Violin Sonata No. 7 from the period when Beethoven's personality began to emerge strongly. Kopatchinskaja's bursting, individualistic interpretation is unique. Another work that forms the core of the album is Antair's own Violin Sonata No. 1. After moving to Europe and interacting with Picasso, Stravinsky, and others in Paris during the "mad age," the poet Ezra Pound introduced him to his girlfriend, the violinist Olga Raggi, and he wrote this work for her. It is a stylish and lively work that reflects the atmosphere of Paris at the time and is reminiscent of Satie, Milhaud, and others. After returning to her native America, she became friends with Morton Feldman and John Cage, with whom she also recorded a piece full of experimentation. Kopatchinskaja is joined here by the Finnish pianist Joonas Ahonen, whom she calls her "doppelgänger. Their sharp and well-matched playing enhances the charm of each piece. Naxos Japan
