The opera "Siberia" is a tragic love story set in a Siberian penal colony written by Luigi Illica. In 1903, the opera was premiered at La Scala in Milan, and Gabriel Fauré, who saw it performed in Paris in 1905, is said to have highly praised its music. The role of Stefana is sung by Sonya Yoncheva, a soprano whose talent has been highly acclaimed in recent years. She sings the role of the passionate heroine with great skill. Tenor Georgi Struer sings the role of Vasili, the pure-hearted lover, with a beautiful voice that has a lot of extension, and baritone Georges Petéan, who plays the role of Glebi, leaves a strong impression with his well-defined villainous role. In addition to the excellent singers, the orchestra and chorus of the Florence May Festival, under the baton of master singer Noseda, draws out a variety of sounds from Giordano's score to create a dramatic production of this opera. The opera is set in St. Petersburg, the capital of Imperial Russia in the early 19th century.Stefana, a beautiful young woman, is the bearer of her former lover, the gigolo Grebi, who has gone from being a poor seamstress to leading a luxurious life in the company of the noble prince Alexis. Vassili, a simple-minded infantry officer, is Stefana's lover and unknowingly visits her at her mansion. When Prince Alexis learns of their relationship, he strikes Vassili, and the latter shoots and kills him. Stefana follows Vassili to Siberia, where she is captured and sent to a Siberian penal colony.
