Description:

Medieval and Renaissance music, meditative 20th century music. The French vocal ensemble, La Tempête, shows a rare aptitude for the ancient music repertoire, with its serene choral space that vacillates between sleep and death, and always mixes modern and contemporary elements such as works from the 20th century with pre-Baroque music to create albums that always invite a fresh musical experience while maintaining an organic sound. La Tempête is a French vocal ensemble. They have previously released unique albums that juxtapose traditional Near Eastern songs and early German Baroque music, or Machaut and Stravinsky, etc. The theme of the new album is "Sleep and Death. Hypnos is the ancient Greek god of sleep (from the European word hypnosis), and in mythology, he and his brother Thanatos (god of death) were born from the goddess of the night. Conductor Vestion, conscious of freely recreating in his imagination the worship in the primitive Christian church, also recalls the land of Greece where the West and East meet, and brings back to life the music of the pre-Renaissance, which dates back to Catholic chants before Gregorian chant with a hint of otherworldliness, with a rich a capella-centered sound. The music of the pre-Renaissance period, which dates back to Catholic chants before Gregorian chant with a hint of the otherworldly. The 20th century works that line up with these sounds without discomfort are all compositions that take advantage of the charm of natural resonance. The sound of pure harmony and the overlapping of dissonant notes in the second and seventh degrees naturally adjoining each other can be described as the effect of La Tempête's unique ancient singing, which also has a slightly oriental flavor. The bass clarinet and ancient cornet supporting the voices are also exquisite, like a supporting line between modernity and old-fashionedness. This is a piece where the boundary between this shore and the other shore quietly melts away, allowing the listener to experience the afterglow of a "deep listening" experience. Naxos Japan
