A Bizley classic along with "La tarantella"! La Bella Neva" was a particular hit in the Alpha label's early white jacket series, where Neapolitan folk singing mingled with ancient music. Marco Bisley, a "magician of voice" who studied with Kathy Berberian and then established his own unique style by incorporating the best of folk and classical singing from his native Naples, and Guido Morini, a keyboard player who also composes his own music using the basso continuo technique, form the unique classical music unit "Accordone". This is also the first album released on the Alpha label, a change from their previous approach of "no recordings, only live performances. The group carefully selected masterpieces from the solo repertoire of Monteverdi and Caccini and other composers from the first period of the Italian Baroque around 1600, and even performed the traditional Neapolitan song "Gwarachino (Little Fish) Play Song," which is sung with an ostinato bass and sung with a variety of styles like a ridiculous "one-man opera," on ancient musical instruments. The album is a masterpiece that vividly brings back to life the "raw" Baroque world of southern Italy.The string players include Franco Pavan and Stefano Rocco, and like the 2001 recording of "La Tarantella" with Larpeggiata, this is a must-hear recording that will remain in the memories of Bisley's fans because of the outstanding presence of his singing.
