Finnish composer Magnus Lindbergi is one of the most acclaimed composers of the 21st century. He is active as a member of the group "Open Your Ears! (Korvat auki!), a group dedicated to the promotion and publicity of contemporary music. This album contains three songs written in the 1990s. The first piece, "Aura," was written in 1993 for the Suntory Hall's "International Composition Commission Series No. 18," and is a virtual symphony in four movements that encapsulates Lindberg's various approaches to the orchestra. Upon receiving the news of Lutoslawski's death while composing this piece, Lindberg dedicated it to the memory of the great composer. The world premiere of the work was given by the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra on June 11, 1994, conducted by Kazufumi Yamashita. Related Rocks" was commissioned by the Belgian ensemble Ictus. Inspired by a draft of Bartók's sonata, this ambitious work adds a variety of percussion and electronics.Marea", which means "lake" in Italian, is part of a substantial trilogy with two other works written at the same time, "Kinetics (1988-89)" and "Joy (1989-1990)".
