Description:

An excellent project to explore the relationship between ancient and contemporary music in Belgium, a great musical powerhouse! Since the mid-20th century, Belgium has been a leading region in the world of ancient music, thanks to the activities of the Kuijken brothers, Philippe Herreweghe, Ricercar Consort, and others. It is also a country where contemporary music is flourishing, and since the beginning of the 20th century, many composers have created new works for viola da gamba, woodwind cornet (zinc), recorder, and other ancient instruments. The Ricercar label, which has been a part of the revival of ancient music for 40 years, features on a single album a number of unique contemporary works that have dazzled audiences with their new and elegant sounds, including not only pieces newly recorded in the 21st century but also pieces by the Quicken Ensemble's predecessor, the Alarius Ensemble, which was founded in 1968. The album is a multifaceted look at how contemporary composers have discovered the ancient instruments in this ancient music powerhouse. There is also a piece dedicated to the label's president, Jérôme Lejeune. The proximity of Busmans, Mernier, conductor Pierre Bartholomew, and Bernard Foclour, a composer as well as a historical organ player himself, ......, as well as their respective fields of performing arts, composition, and recording, have all contributed to this unique sound world that has been building up over the years in Belgium. This is a good recording of the unique sound world that has been created in Belgium thanks to the proximity of the fields of performance art, composition, and recording. Naxos Japan
