Description:
This piece was produced to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the death of Sevillian composer Manuel Castillo. Castillo studied music with Norberto Armandos, organist of the Seville Cathedral, and later went to Paris to study. He was taught by Nadia Boulanger and also became a pianist, and in 1956 he became professor of piano at the Seville Conservatory of Music. 1978 he devoted himself to composition, and his works were acclaimed by the contemporary Spanish composer Tomás Marco. In this album, Castillo traces the roots of his inspiration with works by Albéniz and Turina, who have influenced him, as well as his own compositions, including a world premiere recording. The works are complemented by the virtuosic playing of Spain's Lucio Villegas. Naxos Japan
