Italian opera composer Pierantonio Tasca. Born at the same time as Mascagni and Leoncavallo, he wrote several operas, none of which are performed much anymore. His first opera, "Bianca" (1885), was a hit, with the then famous singer Luisa Tetrazzini taking part in its premiere, and his next two, "Santa Lucia" and "Pergolesi," were also successful in Berlin, where he was even acclaimed as "one of the most respected Italians in Germany," although at the time Unfortunately, Tasca's works were gradually forgotten, as verismo operas were at their height and other popular operas appeared one after another. This "Santa Lucia" is set in Naples. The life of the poor, hidden from the glamorous life of the people in the big city, is depicted with beautiful music and detail. The singers of the Teatro Anhalt in Dessau are the pride of the company, and their performance is superb. Naxos Japan
