A collection of clarinet sonatas by five modern and contemporary composers. The first is a free-form sonata by the Argentinean Guastavino; the second is a sonata in the neoclassical style by Horowitz, an Austrian-born Czech Jew who emigrated to England; the third is a lyrical Rota (also in Brahms' style) that evokes a bright Mediterranean landscape; the fourth is an inorganic solo sonata by Denissoff, The last is the well-known Poulenc's stylish sonata. Although they were written in very different periods, the music has a thousand different expressions. The soloist, Salguero, is the principal clarinetist of the "Andalusian Chamber Orchestra" founded by Falla, and is a virtuoso clarinetist who performs all over the world. Naxos Japan
