Handel (1685-1759)
Description:
The Dunedin Consort's third Handel! The 1720 version of "Esther" echoed in the Cannons! John Butt and the Dunedin Consort have been discovering and reviving unknown manuscripts of Handel and J.S. Bach, such as the 1742 Dublin premiere of "Messiah" (CKD 285) and the 1718 Cannons premiere of "Acis and Galatea" (CKD 319). The third work in the Handel series is the "1720 Cannons Revised First Draft" of "Esther," which is said to have been composed in 1718, although the exact date of composition and first performance is unknown! Handel's "Esther" is full of mysteries, including the theory that the first draft version was composed as a mask and called "Hamon and Mordecai". Conductor John Batt has focused on the first "revised manuscript" of Handel's "Esther," which was written in 1720 during his stay at Cannons for a performance there. After research and verification from a musicologist's point of view, the third recording in the Handel series was realized! Handel's "Esther" in the style of one person in each part. The "Esther" that reverberated through the Cannons' mansion is reproduced, transcending the time of about 300 years! Tokyo M-Plus
