Description:

Capella Mediterranea, an ancient music group named after the Mediterranean Sea, the home of not only Italy but also Spain, southern France, Morocco, Turkey, and many other musical traditions, is now becoming a new cradle of ancient music. This ensemble from Argentina, led by Alarcon, one of the best European keyboardists and choral conductors of ancient music, is full of Latin sensations. The group includes many Latin instrumentalists and singers who are also active as soloists, and is joined this time by Keat Gart, a talented lute and guitar player who has successfully performed "Buenos Aires Madrigal" (MA Reccordings) and many other regional fusion old-time music. He is one of the world's leading musicians from Catalonia. The group performed a hit number by Juan Manuel Serra, a world-famous singer from Catalonia, and sublimated it into an exquisite performance with a group of ancient instruments, making full use of the affinity with Spanish ancient music hidden in the number. The non-vibrato, supple singing of ancient music (by Mariana Flores and Hugo Oliveira, who have made many solo recordings, and other very talented singers in the world of ancient music) is also very impressive. The program is also very appealing, with its free and clear view of the history of Latin music with a focus on Catalonia, from the music of the golden age of the 16th century to Weiss and Cabanilles who lived in the 18th century, and even the "quiet music" of Montpauw. The organic sounds of old Spanish harp and baroque guitar are colored with Keat Gart's unique sensibility, and this is a gem that will gradually remind you of a somewhat sad tropical evening.
