Description:
In 1667, Franz Tunder, organist of the Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Lübeck, a city that had prospered as the leader of the Hanseatic League, died. His successor was Buxtehude, who had been active in Denmark. He married Tunder's daughter, and in this prestigious position introduced a number of new innovations. The best known of these was the expansion of the "Abendmusik Evening Music. This was a "small performance for evening services" initiated by his predecessor, Tunder, but Buxtehude presented a large, spectacular work with chorus and orchestra, and since admission was free, it became very popular. It is said that even the young Bach traveled a long way to Lübeck to hear this performance. In honor of the 500th anniversary of the Lutheran Reformation in 2017, the program includes four cantatas and other instrumental pieces. Vox Luminis...a vocal ensemble that performs in France and around the world.As the ensemble's name "vox luminis" (voice of light) suggests, the ensemble is known for its warm sound and precise harmonies, and is highly acclaimed, having won the Grammophone Editor's Choise and Diapason d'Or (France) awards. He is a well-known and highly respected musician, and often participates in ensembles with the leading Japanese classical musician, Yuto Suzuki. Naxos Japan
