Thom Yorke, Johnny Greenwood, and Tom Skinner's band, The Smile, released their third album "Cutouts" on XL Recordings, which is an explosion of their insatiable creativity and artistry. The Smile made their impressive debut in June 2022 with their breakthrough first album, "A Light for Attracting Attention," and in January 2024, the album was described by Pitchfork as "their best album to date," and was also released by The Needle Drop, Consequence, Brooklyn Vegan, and Treblebleble, The Smile released their second album, "Wall of Eyes", which charted at #3 on the UK Albums Chart and received great reviews from The Needle Drop, Consequence, Brooklyn Vegan, Treblezine, Spin and more. The Smile released their third album "Cutouts" in October of the same year as their second album. This album was recorded at Oxford and Abbey Road Studios at the same time as "Wall Of Eyes" and features string arrangements by the London Contemporary Orchestra.Produced by Sam Petz Davies, who has previously worked on "Wall of Eyes," Thom Yorke's latest solo effort "Confidenza," and Radiohead's "A Moon Shaped Pool," the album was mastered by Greg Calbi, the same producer used for "Wall of Eyes. The album artwork was created by Stanley Kalbi, who also did the artwork for "Wall of Eyes". The album artwork was also painted by Stanley Donwood and Thom Yorke during recording, and several songs from "Cutouts" were premiered during The Smile's UK tour in March 2024, despite the high pace of production, releasing two albums in a year, Despite the fast pace of production, the band has released two albums in a year, and the explosion of their insatiable creativity and artistry has resulted in an album that is clothed in an extraordinary sense of scale, and is truly worthy of being called a super band. The import version will be released on CD and standard black vinyl / limited edition white vinyl, as well as a limited edition of each vinyl with Japanese obi.
