Pianist and composer Masaki Hayashi has demonstrated his exceptional talent across a wide range of musical genres. The long-awaited vinyl release of the “Masaki Hayashi Group” debut album, a collaboration with a select group of fellow musicians, is now available. ~Forms that constantly undulate and shift along the axis of time as it flows by. The sounds created by these six musicians weave a journey into eternity. Masaki Hayashi is a composer who enjoys the deep trust of top artists across various genres—including Risa Ono, Sadao Watanabe, Naruyoshi Kikuchi, Ringo Sheena, and Jun Miyake—and is highly acclaimed for his work. Now an indispensable figure in the contemporary music scene, he has launched a project bearing his own name: the “Masaki Hayashi Group.” The group’s first album is now available on long-awaited vinyl. The members are Kazuma Fujimoto (gt), Hiroshi Suzuki (sax, cl, fl), Atsuki Yoshida (vln, vla), Takashi Sugawa (cb, vc), and Shinya Fukumori (ds). All are top musicians leading the contemporary jazz scene. These are truly a golden lineup—the finest of friends who have performed together individually in recent years, delivering countless memorable performances, now gathered in one place. Their performance, underpinned by a strong bond of trust, creates a spacious, expansive soundscape filled with a sense of unity. The album features a total of 10 tracks, including 8 originals by Masaki Hayashi, plus “Oneba” by Shinya Fukumori and “Again” by Kazuma Fujimoto. With rhythm, melody, and harmony meticulously crafted and each track colored by rich, distinct tones, this album significantly expands the possibilities of acoustic ensemble music. As the title “Blurtheborder” suggests, this is a new form of music originating from Japan that blurs boundaries while encompassing a variety of musical styles. This album is the fourth release from [S/NAlliance], a label founded by drummer/composer/producer Shinya Fukumori—following [nagalu]—to connect “friends” both in Japan and abroad.
