Description:

The long-awaited new release by the Berliner Philharmoniker and Kirill Petrenko! The Schoenberg Edition "I'm not afraid of Arnold Schoenberg." The Berlin Philharmonic and Petrenko present a portrait of passion. Schoenberg Edition The Berlin Philharmonic and its principal conductor Kirill Petrenko present the long-awaited new "Arnold Schoenberg Edition," a three-CD and Blu-ray set in hardcover format specially produced to commemorate the 150th anniversary of Schoenberg's birth. The new "Arnold Schoenberg Edition" is a hardcover edition of three CDs and Blu-ray. All of Schoenberg's creative periods are covered. The works on this disc cover the entire period of Schoenberg's creative career. The works range in style from the Romantic lyricism of "The Purified Night," Op. 4 (performed in the 1943 revised version for string orchestra) to the twelve-tone technique of "Variations for Orchestra," Op. 31. Also included is the "Violin Concerto" Op.36 with Patricia Kopatchinskaja as soloist, and the rare unfinished oratorio "Jacob's Ladder," which presents a complete picture of Schoenberg's musical explorations. A Close Relationship with the Berliner Philharmoniker The relationship between the Berlin Philharmonic and Schönberg began in January 1919 when "The Purified Night" appeared on the Philharmonic's program for the first time, followed by the Berlin premiere of "Glee" in 1923 and the world premiere of "Variations for Orchestra" in 1928 (conducted by Furtwängler). In 1928, he gave the world premiere of his "Variations for Orchestra" (conducted by Furtwängler). To this day, his works are regularly performed, demonstrating the deep ties between the two composers. Re-presentation to dispel misconceptions The aim of this edition is to show how Schoenberg's music is full of passion and expressive desire, beyond preconceptions such as "difficult" or "cold innovation. In their preface, Philip Bonnen and Olaf Manninger, media representatives of the Berlin Philharmonic, quote his student Anton Webern as saying, "Schoenberg's sensibility is of searing ardour," and emphasize that his music is essentially rooted in "a burning desire for expression. Schoenberg's sensibility is of searing ardour" and emphasizes that his music is essentially rooted in "a sincere desire for expression. An Artist's Attitude and Petrenko's Resonance Schoenberg himself said, "An artist does not create to be considered beautiful by others, but creates what is necessary for himself. This spirit resonates deeply with the musical views of chief conductor Kirill Petrenko, for whom Schoenberg has been a special composer since his student days. Comprehensive edition with multi-layered performance, video, and commentary The Blu-ray includes concert footage of all the works, as well as Dolby Atmos studio-quality sound recordings of "Jacob's Ladder. In addition, a detailed commentary by musicologists Harvey Sachs and Martin Kaltenecker is included, complete with a full Japanese translation. In terms of design, the hardcover edition by U.S. artist Peter Harry is visually striking. BERLINER
