The studio recording of Svetlanov's Mara 9 with the Russian National Symphony Orchestra was not of the highest quality, so this live performance by the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, which prides itself on its virtuosity, and the Swedish Radio Orchestra, which boasts of its excellent recordings, is sure to be coveted by fans. (From the liner notes) The Ninth Symphony is Mahler's last work. It is also suggestive and implied that the great conductor Svetlanov, who will soon finish his performing career (and who shares with Mahler the great composer), will take up this work.The maestro conducted it not only with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra at its home base in Stockholm, but also on a musical trip to London shortly after.
