The '21 album by the prodigious bedroom folk S.S.W. from Sapporo, Sky Mata (Yūtai Bijin), is now available in analog format! The latest LP release from the Sapporo-based home recording project Sky Mata. Sky Mata has been releasing music since the mid-2010s, and their self-titled EP, released in analog form in 2021 under the name Yūtai Bijin (幽体美人名), has been a big hit. Smile Hotel" is an analog version of the sound source released on Bandcamp, with artwork newly created by Sky Mata himself. The album has a unique sound that combines the romanticism of folk music from half a century ago with an inorganic, futuristic world. The improvisational and flowing performance that intersects jazz, lounge music, and exotic, and the unique vocal style that humorously spins pop melodies, are also filled with a mysterious charm. If I had to name artists of the same era, I would cite Sam Gendel and Homeshake.
