This is a record of one of the most important performances of the era of Lorin Maazel, who has served as music director since 1982. This is a rare live performance of the Vienna premiere of the three-act version with Celha's supplementary writing. Maazel's lucid grasp of the music and precise interpretation with flawless baton technique bring out the drama of the work in all its nakedness. This, together with the full and deep tone of the orchestra, makes "Lulu", along with Abbado's "Wozzeck", based on the image of Berg that represented the 80's. The soprano Migenes, who played the title role in the film "Carmen," was cast in the leading role, along with Fassbender, Adam, Zednik, and Hotter, who was over 70 years old at the time, all of whom are well-known singers in their respective roles.
