[Tower Records "Sony Classical" Special Selection 10th] Leibovitz's performance left at RCA! A masterpiece recording! René Leibovitz (1913-1971) was a composer and theorist who studied with Schoenberg and Webern. He was also active in recording, making the first LP recordings of Schoenberg's "Glee Songs" and Berg's "Chamber Concerto," and in the stereo era, he released many masterpieces, including Beethoven's complete symphonies with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra through the mail order company Readers Digest. This album was recorded by Leibovitz at the same time for RCA, and as the original title "The Power of the Orchestra" suggests, it is known as a masterful recording by Kennel Wilkinson, a master of the English Decca orchestra, which fully discloses the charm of the orchestra. The orchestration of "One Night on Bald Mountain" is based on the Rimsky=Korsakov version, but with three cuts and a new coda.This is probably one of the most spectacular performances of the same piece in history. Recorded January 17 and February 6, 1962 at Kingsway Hall, London.
