The year 2003 marks the 100th anniversary of the birth of the famous Russian conductor Evgeni Mravinsky. In preparation for this commemorative year, a remarkable series of CDs will be launched at the end of 2002: the live performances of Mravinsky's 1973 tour of Japan by Altus in 2001, which left a vivid impression on the audience, and his dreamed-of performances in Japan in 1975 and 1977, which will be released one after the other on CD by the same label. The Japan Mravinsky Society recorded these performances at the request of the Leningrad PO, and now, with Mrs. Mravinsky's official permission, the recordings are being released on CD. The first releases are two titles from the 1977 concert in Japan. The first two releases are from the 1977 concert in Japan, which was highly praised by music critics who saw the performance at the time, and has become a legend among enthusiastic fans. All of the performances released on this occasion speak volumes about the inimitable maestro, but Chayko's performance of No. 5 has been called the best performance of Muravin's career to date. The key point of this recording is the rich sense of realism.The sound faithfully conveys the atmosphere of the concert hall, making Muravin's musical delivery more palpable than ever before. The sound quality, as before, has been mastered by Altus to the highest possible standard. Also of great interest is the lineup of the strongest members, including the famous horn player Bujanovsky, who is known for his shiny black vivlato!
