Tommy Bolin 、 Energy (Tommy Bolin)

Description:

Tommy Bolin has been in many bands and has made the music his own everywhere he goes. This is a recording for broadcast by KFML, an FM station in Minnesota, of a live performance in 1972 when Tommy was still an unknown artist in a band called Energy, which was playing at the time, Although the band was ultimately unable to secure a recording deal and disbanded due to financial deadlock, it seems that they were an important group to Tommy, and he kept calling the members from this time back to play with them for anything and everything until his later years. Since the band never made any studio recordings, the fact that the band's performances have survived is in itself valuable. This is a must-hear for fans. Tommy Bolin made his debut in 1969 when he was 18 years old in a blues-rock band called Zephyr. He remained with Zephyr until 1971, when Tommy began to explore the transition to jazz-rock like the Mahavishnu Orchestra, and he and drummer Bobby Burge, who joined the band midway through, formed a new band called Energy. The initial singer left the group due to differences in direction.Instead, he was replaced by Jeff Cook, who was a singer in a band called American Standard, with which Tommy had formed before forming Zephyr. Among the songs written with Tommy was "Lady Luck," which was adopted by Deep Purple, and his performance can be heard on this CD. While more and more long improvisations can be heard on songs such as "Hok-O-Hey," the band is clearly searching for a direction, doing blues covers of Sunny Boy Williamson, John Lee Hooker, and Junior Wells, and even Jeff Beck Group covers. Tommy was clearly looking for a new direction. Tommy was 20-21 years old at the time. His guitar playing was already quite sharp, but it was the following year that this talent blossomed. This is a precious record of the night before the world knew the name Tommy Bolin.
