Description:
Sóley is one of the most promising female artists in Iceland. After working as a member of Seabear, she released her debut solo album "We Sink" in 2011, which was highly acclaimed and became a long seller here in Japan. After her 2014 solo piano work "Kromantik" featuring her main instrument, "Ask The Deep," her long-awaited second album "Ask The Deep" is finally released, as she is renowned as a multi-instrumentalist who studied instruments and composition professionally. Four years after the piano-driven, delicate, dreamy melancholic folk masterpiece "We Sink," this album offers a glimpse into the depths of a brilliant woman who has continued to sink in pursuit of depth. Her fantastical worldview is tinged with darkness and nightmarishness here, and throughout the album she depicts her struggle with "the devil in her own heart. It is as if she is opening and closing Pandora's box, and the depth of her work is sure to surprise everyone. The piano, which has been a trademark of Soray's music, has now finished its role, and in this album, in addition to the piano, there are ghostly synths, guitars that emit distorted noise, drums that beat dynamically, and a variety of sophisticated sounds unthinkable in Soray's past that overwhelm you from start to finish. The sound is sophisticated and diverse, something that Soray has never done before. The recording was done in her garage, and the mixing was done at Sundlaugin Studios, owned by Sigur Ros, by Birgil Jon Birgisson, who has worked with Sigur Ros and others, and by Soray herself. Mastering was done by Francesco Donadello, an up-and-coming engineer who has worked on A Winged Victory for the Sarn. The massive artwork is by Ingibjörg Birgisdottir, sister of Yoncie of Sigur Rós, as on the previous album. Sóley has always stood out among the many great Icelandic talents that have emerged, and the depth of this album suggests that she has the potential to one day approach Björk's level of excellence. Domestic distribution only, with lyrics translation and download code for Morr Music label sampler.
