Description:

The long-awaited Exton debut album. Nakako Yokoyama’s soul-stirring interpretation of Bach. This is the Exton debut album by Nakako Yokoyama, who placed fifth at the 10th Tchaikovsky International Competition and is active as a chamber musician and soloist. The album features the complete Sonatas and Partitas for Solo Violin by Bach. Although these works have long been part of her repertoire, she took this opportunity to reexamine Bach’s music and dedicate herself to this recording. The result is a dignified performance of Bach’s works, showcasing her precise technique and rich sensibility. She began studying violin at the age of six under the guidance of Yoko Murai. She later studied under Akiko Tazawa. She graduated from the School of Music at Toho Gakuen University in 1994. In 1997, she completed the university’s Soloist Diploma Course. During this time, she studied under Angela Eto and Toshiya Eto. In 1991, she won third prize at the 60th Japan Music Competition. In 1992, she received the Encouragement Award at the 5th Japan International Music Competition. In 1994, she placed fifth at the 10th Tchaikovsky International Competition. In 1998, she gave the Japanese premiere of Furtwängler’s Violin Sonata No. 2 with pianist Miyuki Washimiya; a recording of the performance was sent to Mrs. Elisabeth Furtwängler. From 2010 to 2012, he gave recitals featuring the complete set of Mozart’s violin sonatas. He has also appeared on NHK-FM and in the Nippon Steel Promising Artists Series, among other venues. Since 2007, he has served as a judge for the All-Japan Student Music Competition, sponsored by NHK and the Mainichi Shimbun. She has released a CD on Ongaku no Tomo-sha featuring works by Russian composers, including Prokofiev’s Violin Sonata No. 1 (with Shinji Urakabe on piano). Octavia Records
