This cover album features the work of singer-songwriter Nana Yanase, whose songs have been featured in stage productions directed by Kazukiyo Nishikori—a director who is also active in theater—for many years. Their connection began with the song “Make Nai Towel,” an anthem of encouragement produced immediately after the Great East Japan Earthquake, and over the next decade or so, it led to numerous songs that enriched Nishikori’s stage productions. This album features five songs by Nana Yanase, including one that was first used on stage. Nishikori carefully weaves together this collection of songs—which quietly contemplate human pain, kindness, and hope—with his uniquely warm voice. The recording took place in Nara Prefecture. Yanase Nana’s support members gathered for the performance and recording, capturing an unpretentious, natural atmosphere and rich warmth. Rather than relying on flashy embellishments, this album allows listeners to rediscover the power of songs that gently accompany life’s joys and sorrows. After listening, it leaves a gentle afterglow—as if you’ve been given the words “thank you” as a parting gift. (C)RS
