Jazz guitarist Yukito Shimizu’s second album, “MyIdeal.” In a sharp contrast to his previous album, which featured all original compositions, this album consists entirely of jazz standards. Returning from the previous album is bassist Yasutaka Man, joined by up-and-coming drummer Sayo Hayakawa. With a simple trio lineup of guitar, bass, and drums, and deliberately avoiding elaborate arrangements, the album carefully brings out the inherent beauty of the songs, the dynamic energy of the swing, and the charm of improvisation. While centered on a tone that conveys the inherent warmth of jazz guitar and refined bebop, the album weaves in contemporary approaches throughout, resulting in a work where respect for tradition coexists with a sensibility firmly rooted in the present.
