The Early Music Log series on the Fra Bernardo label aims to present important milestones in the understanding of ancient music. You can link to the documentary from the QR code in the booklet. In 1767, C.P.E. Bach succeeded his godfather Georg Philipp Telemann as director of music in Hamburg. Two years later, he unveiled the first work in his annual Passion cycle, the Matthew Passion H. 782. Long thought lost after the war, the work was rediscovered in 1999 in the music archives of the Berliner Zingakademie in Kiev and performed for the first time by Ton Koopman in 2002. The work is truly a remarkable work that bridges two musical eras, as it continues the legacy of his father's monumental Passion, but also reflects the changing theological and musical sensibilities of the Age of Enlightenment. This album reissues the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra led by master Ton Koopman, and the moving concert recordings left behind by the great soloists at the Minoritenkirche in Vienna. Tokyo M-Plus
