Description:

Schee & Gewandhaus Orchestra Mahler No. 4 2012 live videoThe third installment of ACCENTUS MUSIC's Mahler series by the Gewandhaus Orchestra led by Riccardo Schee, the 19th Kapellmeister of the orchestra since 2005. This performance was recorded at the subscription concert of the 2011/2012 season. Although not included in the video, the orchestra performed Ravel's piano concerto with Hélène Grimaud on the same day, as well as No. 8 (ACC 10222BD/ACC 20222DVD) and No. 2 (ACC 10238BD/ACC 20238DVD) recorded at the "International Mahler Music Festival" in May 2011. After seven years in office, Chailly and the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra give a performance of a very high degree of perfection. The performance is meticulously detailed, and the colorful kaleidoscopic world of fascinating colors is depicted.Shai has a complete Mahler cycle with the Concertgebouw Orchestra, but the 4th was recorded in 1999, so this is the first re-recording in 13 years. 1999 performance times were 18'06 for the 1st movement, 9'31 for the 2nd, 20'53 for the 3rd, and 9'45 for the 4th. The final movement features the remarkable German soprano Christina Landschammer, who gives a skillful rendering that suits the ironic lyrics. The Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra has not made many Mahler recordings, and this is the first authorized recording of No. 4. The camera work is also superbly edited, as only ACCENTUS MUSIC can do, to create a spectacular video. The bonus track includes a video of Schee explaining the music and Mahler's favorite piano roll, the "Verte Mignon," a newly developed piano roll at the time. The cover design is again by Neo Rauch, a contemporary artist from Leipzig. King International
