Born and raised in Odessa, Ukraine, Boris Bloch studied at the Tchaikovsky State Conservatory in Moscow under Tatiana Nikolaeva and Dmitry Bashkirov, and won first prize at the 1978 Busoni International Piano Competition. He is a well-known pianist who is best described as a "prodigy" or a "genius. This is the first collection of his "Piano Works" series for ARS Produktion, released to commemorate the bicentennial of Franz Liszt's birth. All recordings are live. It is a welcome opportunity for me to pay a small but more affectionate tribute to Franz Liszt, the man who revolutionized piano playing, the father of our profession, the genius of a four-time visionary as composer, pianist, conductor, and teacher, and to bow before him with deep gratitude and respect.
