Early Romantic Trio Collection with FluteAs various instruments were improved in the early 19th century, the expressiveness and technique of performers and composers alike improved dramatically and developed accordingly. The works by Kuhlau, Czerny, and Weber recorded here are from this period. The best players were also instrument makers, including flutist Georg Tromlitz, who was also a member of the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra. Tromlitz devised a new key system that made it possible to play a variety of keys. The cello and piano also became equal partners in the ensemble, and the trio form became firmly established in the chamber music genre. Kuhlau is an indispensable composer of flute music. The Trio in G major, Op.119, has been published in a variety of performance forms, but is recorded here with flute, cello, and piano, where each instrument can be heard most intimately.And although Czerny is known for his exercises for piano students, he actually left behind a great deal of music in genres other than piano. This "Fantasie Concertante" is a piece colored with graceful melodies. Then there is Weber's "Trio in G minor, Op.63. Weber was friends with the famous flutists Fürstenau and his son, and it is said that this piece may have been written for them. Incidentally, Kuhlau was also a close friend of the Fürstenau father and son and dedicated a piece to them. Weber's Trio is a large-scale work in four movements, and is by far the most substantial of the early Romantic works with flute. King International
