Not J.S., not J.C., but J.E., a collection of sonatas for clavier and violin by Johann Ernst Bach (1722-1777). Johann Ernst Bach was born in Eisenach, Germany. He was the son of Johann Bernhard Bach (1676-1749), Sebastian's cousin, and shared Ernst's great-grandfather (4 generations ago) and Sebastian's great-grandfather (3 generations ago). Johann Ernst Bach's works have only been featured in collections of the Bach family's works, and this may be the first CD of his works alone. The six sonatas recorded here were published between 1770 and 1772, in the early classical style. All six sonatas are simple but charming, and if you forget about the relationship with the great Bach and listen to them as wonderful early classical works, you will enjoy them very much. These pieces deserve period performances. Claudia Mende is a German violinist.He specializes in baroque music and is concertmaster of various groups. Gerd Ammerung is the most active baroque and classical keyboard player in Germany today. He plays harpsichord, clavichord, and early piano, and is also active as a conductor. Tobu Shoji Co.
