This is a collection of Schubert's songs accompanied by fortepiano (hammered flugel in German). 3 different fortepianos are used. The recording was made at Goethe's Weimar Castle, and the sound alone conveys a subtly different atmosphere from the hall recording. Thomas Stimmel is a young bass born in Munich. He has a thick, masculine voice and is sure to become more and more active in the future. Katerina Meyer is a young soprano not long after completing her studies at the University of Music and Dance in Cologne.
