Description:

I want this!!! Enjoy the charm of the piano with a variety of rare recordings from Bollet's heyday! This is the third and final release in the highly acclaimed audite Boretto series. Jorge Borretto (1914-1990) was an American pianist of Cuban origin. He is a master pianist who has many fans for his 19th century style piano playing with great skill and rich expression. His Liszt and Chopin, with their distinctive rich tone and plenty of singing, were superb. Bollett has truly pedigreed piano DNA, having studied with Godowsky and then finished with Giloti, a cousin of Rachmaninoff and a favorite pupil of Liszt and Tchaikovsky. However, after a long period of disappointment, he finally came to international attention in the 1970s, making recordings mainly for Decca. This album is a valuable record of Bollet's heyday in the 1960s and 1970s, and with the exception of Godowski's "Die Fledermaus," this is the world premiere of all of his recordings. The recordings were in miraculous condition due to the quality of the most advanced West German broadcasters of the time. The mastering techniques of audite owner Beckenhoff have brought the recordings back to life in superb sound quality. The great thing about this album is that most of the music is Bollet's only recording and can only be heard here. Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 5, "Emperor," while seemingly suited to Borrett, certainly should not have been heard anywhere else. The performance is bigger than expected and overwhelming. I was also too happy to discover that he plays all 12 etudes from Chopin's Op. 25. The "Heroic Polonaise" and the "Military Polonaise" are also magically performed, as is the "Bollet" in its heyday. What is even more interesting is that Schumann's Piano Sonata No. 3, nicknamed "Concerto without Orchestra," and "Ballade," the most dramatic and deepest of Grieg's works, were still available. The high voltage of Schumann and the wailing of Grieg (for some reason, the 12th variation was cut) reached a level where no one else's performance could match it. To be able to enjoy these two works performed by Boretto is a real pleasure of piano music. The Piano Sonata No. 2 by Boretto's friend Norman Delo-Gioio, which he performed for the first time at Carnegie Hall, was also recorded by Boretto. It is fortunate that Borrett's recording of this too has survived. Each piece is concentrated with the beauty and charm of the piano.A must-have treasure for those interested in piano music.
