Prometheus in Chains, opera by Maurice Emmanuel! Maurice Emmanuel (1862-1938) was a French composer and musicologist. After entering the Paris Conservatory, Emmanuel studied under Dreve. He later became a professor at the Conservatoire de Paris from 1909 to 1936. The opera "Prometheus in Chains" was composed between 1895 and 1898 and originally consisted of five acts, but the composer himself destroyed the scores for two acts, so only three acts are extant. During Emmanuel's lifetime, there is no record of all three acts being performed, but in 1959, it was performed in concert form at the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées. Miraculously, a magnetic tape of the performance has been preserved by the Maurice Emanuel Society, and now, more than 50 years later, it is being revived by the "Melism label. Tokyo M-Plus
