Jofrois Couteau, a French pianist who lives by her love for Brahms, is currently working on a project to record all of Brahms's piano works (including chamber works that include piano). A project is underway to record all of Brahms's piano works (including chamber works that include piano). In this volume of the complete piano quartets, she is joined by the Hermes String Quartet, a French ensemble of musicians who are active in France, in an exceptionally well-matched ensemble with a passionate and lush tone. The first movement of No. 3 tends to be marked only by a mournful weight, but this performance is well controlled, and the moderation of expression is very pleasing.
