Enjoy the "tone" of the bassoon.A Collection of Works by 20th Century French ComposersThe reason why the 20th century French wind instrument repertoire is so rich is that the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris held a competition (an annual event that awards prizes to students) in which the commissioning of new works was an assignment. Works written for bassoon include Marcel Bitsch's "Concertino" and Alain Bernaudeau's "Hallucinations," which are now standard repertoire for the bassoon. On the other hand, there are many works that are rarely performed today because they were written by students of the time and are difficult to play. This album contains carefully selected and recorded musically rich works such as "Fagottino" by René Ducrot and "Portuguese" by Henri Bucherer. All but Faure are original works written for bassoon. Marie Boichard has been the principal bassoonist of the Orchestre National de France since June 2021, and was awarded first prize at the Double Reed Society International Competition held in 2022.
