The World of Russian Lyricism by Masreev, First Prize Winner of the 15th International Tchaikovsky CompetitionThe long-awaited new recording by Dmitry Masreev, winner of the piano section of the 15th International Tchaikovsky Competition in 2015, is now available. It is fascinating that all are 19th century Russian works. The album is dedicated to Masreev's first child, born in January 2023. He himself was given Tchaikovsky's "Four Seasons" as his first present from his parents when he was a child, and the main thing he remembers is how excited he was about all of them as a child. Since the collection also begins in January, I am filled with the desire to tell the story of my child's first experience of the year through music. The fill-up music is also fascinating. The melancholic and Russian lyricism of Glinka's nocturne "Farewell," the Spanish-tinged "Serenade" by the quintet Cuy, and Balakirev's version of Glinka's song "Hibari" colored with gorgeous pianism, are all rich in flavor. Another highlight is the piano version of Mussorgsky's "One Night on Bald Mountain" arranged by Chernov. The work is both powerful and bizarre. King International
