Christoph Von Dohnanyi & Wiener Philharmoniker

Description:

Compilation of recordings made by one of the leading conductors of our time, Dohnányi, with the prestigious Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra 31 CD + DVD box set One of the most renowned conductors of our time, Christoph von Dohnányi, born in Berlin in 1929, has compiled all of his recordings with the prestigious Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra in this 31-CD + DVD boxed set. D'Honagni's partnership with the Cleveland Orchestra has been particularly well received, and a box set of all his recordings with the orchestra has been well received. This release follows on from that success, and includes orchestral works, vocal works, and operas by Mozart, Beethoven, Stravinsky, and Schoenberg. In addition to the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, there are recordings with other European orchestras such as the Vienna Symphony Orchestra, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Bamberg Symphony Orchestra, the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, the Berlin Radio Symphony Orchestra, and others, including recordings by Decca, Philips, and Deutsche Grammophon The recordings include those by the His recordings of Mendelssohn's complete symphonies and "The First Walpurgis Night" with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra have been especially well received by critics. Concertos with such diverse collaborators as Ingrid Hebler, Claudio Arrau, Maurice Gendron, András Schiff, and Gidon Kremer, as well as works by composers of the New Viennese School, such as Berg's Lulu and Wozzeck, are also featured.R. Strauss' "Burleske" with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, featuring Rudolf Buchbinder as soloist, is a previously unreleased recording, while Beethoven's overture cycle with the Vienna Symphony Orchestra is being released on CD for the first time. A collection of small pieces by Boccherini, Schubert, Liszt & Weinberger and a collection of opera arias by tenor Libero de Luca are rare recordings from the Deutsche Grammophon archives and are being reissued for the first time since the LP era. R. Strauss' "Salome," with Katherine Malfitano and Bryn Terfel in the leading roles, is included on both CD and DVD. The booklet includes a detailed essay by Andrew Stewart and session photos. In original jacket. All of these recordings were made at the Zofien Saal, which was always Decca's engineers' favorite place, and all are extremely fine recordings of the period."--Gramophone (on the complete Mendelssohn symphonies) The performances on this superb CD surpass all previous recordings of the Lulu Suite. Please note that there are some rare cases in which sound sources are omitted from products that claim to be complete recordings. Universal Music/IMS
