To commemorate the occasion, Decca France is re-releasing the beautiful 2013 collection Pierre Boulez-The Composer, a 13-CD boxed set that features the music of the great French composer, conductor, and music theorist, Pierre Boulez (1925-2016), and the music of the great French conductor, Pierre Boulez. It focuses on Boulez as a composer, including all the performances, and is supervised by Boulez himself and encompasses works that he himself acknowledged as emblematic of his compositional art. In addition to Boulez, the ensemble includes Pierre-Laurent Emard, Alphonse & Alois Contarsky, Christine Schaefer, Severino Gazzeroni, David Tudor, Jeanne-Marie Conquet, Roger Desormières, Ensemble Intercontemporain, Performances by the BBC Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre National de Radio France, and others, including the 1950 premiere of The Water Sun, as well as historic recordings of Le marteau sans metre and Sonatine, and an interview with Boulez by musicologist Claude Samuel.
