Huelgas Ensemble / Van Nevel, Paul

Description:

The 50th anniversary album of the Welgas Ensemble explores the polyphonic music of the Flemish Music School 1400-1600. Accompanied by a beautiful booklet featuring photographs of Flemish landscapes. Paul van Nevel and the Huelgas Ensemble pursue the beauty of Renaissance polyphonic music. The album celebrating the 50th anniversary of the ensemble is a two-disc set that shows the diversity of Flemish polyphonic music from the 14th to 16th centuries. Included are works by outstanding composers such as Buenoit, Gombert, and Josquin des Prez, as well as lesser-known composers such as Josquin Baston, Jean Leritier, and Jean Mouton, who deserve attention. The Belgian choral ensemble, the Huelgas Ensemble, under the direction of Paul van Nervel, founder and authority on the performance and study of Flemish music, has arguably laid the foundation for contemporary performance with its recordings of Renaissance music. They have created concerts and albums with original programming from numerous unknown masterpieces, and the album "Albion - Polyphony of Medieval England," released in 2021 to celebrate their 50th anniversary, received a five-star review from the German "Phono Forme" magazine, which said, "With outstanding vocal technique and dream-like creativity It received a five-star review from the German "Phono Forme" magazine, which said, "Everything pulsated with life. Nevel has spent more than 20 years traveling throughout the Flemish Musical School's territory, photographing the many unique landscapes of each region. The booklet includes 24 photographs from that collection of photographs of cathedrals and surrounding landscapes closely associated with the recorded works and composers. By listening to the music while viewing the historical architecture and scenery, the listener is taken on a journey through the music of the Flemish School of Music from the 14th to 16th centuries.
