This time, the series features previously unreleased recitals by Claudio Arrau, one of the most famous pianists of the 20th century. Born in Chile in 1903, Arau studied in Berlin under Martin Krause. In 1927, he won the first prize at the Geneva International Piano Competition. He was one of the most famous pianists of the 20th century, specializing in Beethoven, Schubert, etc. At a concert held on March 12, 1959 at the University of Music in Berlin, Arrau was 56 years old at the time. The recital was given at the peak of his career, and the performance was full of tension from beginning to end.The expressive power of the "Farewell" in particular is superb, and its perfectly mastered phrasing and profound sound make it a must-listen for fans of Arrau and Beethoven alike.
