Azul" is a concept album that aims to fuse different worlds by The Knight, a group of Brooklyn musicians who have selected five works that focus on the relationship between the blue sky and the earth. The main piece on the album is "Azul" by Argentine composer Golijov. As the striking album cover suggests, this meditative cello concerto, which means "blue" in Spanish, was written for Yo-Yo Ma in 2006. Instead, the soloist is an "adventurer traveling in another world," a mediator between "chaos and revelation. The Knight is surrounded by 51 musicians, including conductor Jacobsen, hyper-accordionist Bergemann, and percussionists Haddad and Baptista, who will play everything from water horns, known for making "the strangest sounds in the world," to African folk instruments, including the "Baptiste" and the "Baptiste". The Knight plays water horns and the African folk instrument djembe, known for making "the most bizarre sounds in the world," in a magical dialogue with Yo-Yo Ma's cello.Yo-Yo Ma and The Knight have been collaborating for some time and have performed this work many times, and he has the work completely in his hands. His performance of Dvorak's wistful aria "Song to the Moon" is also a must-hear beauty. The album opens with "The Rising Bird" by contemporary Iranian composer AGHAEI, followed by two pieces performed by Yo-Yo Ma, then Stockhausen's "Tierkreis (Zodiac)" and concludes with a fantastic piece by Sufian Stevens.
