Angela Gheorghiu's new recording has been available for a long time! Verismo opera was a trend that swept the Italian opera world from the end of the 19th century to the beginning of the 20th century. Rather than taking its subject matter from myths and folktales, verismo operas depicted the love and hate that accompanied the daily lives of ordinary people, and were characterized by the use of graphic emotional expressions and violent depictions, as well as remarkably dramatic music. Mascagni's "Cavalleria Rusticana" (meaning "Rural Chivalry"), placed at the beginning of this album, is a typical example of such a work, a compact narrative of a horrific murder case arising from a love triangle. Of course, the singer must have a great deal of musical expression and a strong voice to compete with the heavy sounding orchestral music. Georgiou's singing was perfect in all these respects. He sang the protagonist's emotions naturally, without any effort, and with a somewhat heavier sound. The duets are performed by two master singers, Joseph Kaleya and Rihard Nowak, who add color to this beautiful world. As the title suggests, this album will be one that will bring eternal joy to many listeners. Warner Music Japan
