The Sprafon label has been recording works by Miroslav Kabelács (1908-1979), one of the leading Czech composers of the 20th century. This album contains piano works. It is performed by Jan Bartosz. After studying composition and conducting at the Prague Conservatory, Kabelács became conductor and director of music production at the Czech Broadcasting Corporation in 1932, a position he held for many years. Throughout his life and works, Karabeč played an active role in bringing to the fore the theme of "not giving in to evil and pursuing human ideals. He was a musician who expressed both during the Nazi occupation and the communist dictatorship of Czechoslovakia. The Eight Preludes for Piano, Op.30, recorded here, is an ambitious work from the same period as Cabellati's masterpiece "Mysteries of Time," Op.31. Together with the companion piece, "Motifs from Another Country," Op.38, it foreshadows the advent of postmodernism and minimalism. The coupling is by Smetana. The six character pieces, Op. 1, are a collection of piano pieces consisting of "In the Woods," "Awakened Passion," "The Shepherd's Daughter," "Longing," "The Warrior," and "Despair. You will enjoy the warm music typical of Smetana. Jan Bartosz is one of the most talented pianists in the Czech Republic, and is highly praised by Brendel. He made his successful concert debut at the age of 14 under the baton of Bělohlávek and has since won numerous international competitions. She has won awards at numerous international competitions since then, and her releases on the Sprafon label include Janacek's piano works (SU 4266), Mozart's piano concertos (KKC 6155 / SU 4234), Beethoven's piano sonatas (SU 4252), and Novak's piano concertos (SU-4284), all of which have received high praise for their meticulous and careful production.
